Match Report: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Anderlecht

Mousa Dembele scored a stunning goal in the dying minutes to give Tottenham a hard-fought win over an Anderlecht side who were much improved in the second-half.

Spurs began the game as the better side, with Harry Kane eventually putting the Lilywhites ahead in the 29th minute after Christian Eriksen played a ball in behind the Anderlecht defence, which Kane then placed pass the Anderlecht goalkeeper to put Tottenham ahead.

The score would remain the same until half-time, after which Anderlecht came out a much better team and they had two good chances within the first five minutes of the first-half.

Their equalizing goal came much later in the second half, when substitute Ezekiel finished from Defour’s cross after only coming on as a substitute three minutes before.

Ryan Mason was immediately replaced by Mousa Dembele and with the game going into the 87th minute, he collected the ball from Son and from outside the penalty area, he smashed the ball into the back of the net to give Spurs a crucial three points.

That result means that Spurs move to the top of Group J following Monaco’s draw against Qarabag and will now have the chance to qualify against Qarabag in three weeks time if Monaco beat Anderlecht.

The focus for Spurs is now the North London derby on Sunday and with Harry Kane now scoring and the team playing well, Spurs have a great chance of beating Arsenal on Sunday.
