Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauricio Pochettino has laughed off reports suggesting that rivals Manchester United are attempting to sign home-grown star Harry Kane.
The promising English striker has been rumoured with a move to Old Trafford before, but all attempts to bring Kane up north have broken down.
The twenty-two year old has recently been featuring for the England International team, scoring a goal on his competitive début.
Kane has also signed a new five-and-a-half year contract extension in February, that would see the prolific striker stay at White Hart Lane for the distant future.
The Argentine coach showed a smile when he was enquired about the interest of Kane from Louis Van Gaal; the ex-Southampton manager believes that the Kane speculation is all rumours.
Pochettino said ‘I smile because the rumours are always there. The rumours are rumours. Even now it is too early to start speaking about rumours but you know in football it is normal.’
The Spurs coach believes that a goal drought the young striker endured has made him stronger.
Tottenham face a manager-less Aston Villa side on Monday, a team stuck at the bottom of the Barclays Premier League table. This should give Kane a chance to improve his goal-scoring record for this season.
Kane has also stated that he is ‘happy at Spurs and [he looks] forward to the future with Spurs.’
The striker has scored six goals this season, including a hat-trick at the Vitality Stadium in Spurs’ 5-1 win over Bournemouth.
Kane says he is aware of the speculation, saying that ‘[he] has seen that there is interest but that’s all [he] knows. It is flattering for other clubs to maybe be interested.’
