Kane scores in England rout

Harry Kane was on the scoresheet as England secured qualification to Euro 2016 with a 6-0 win over San Marino on Saturday evening.

He replaced Wayne Rooney just before the hour mark, and scored what was probably the best goal of the game with a sublime chip over the head of the goalkeeper with 12 minutes to go.

Ryan Mason was an unused substitute for Roy Hodgson’s team, but could get some game time in Tuesday’s match against Switzerland with a place in next year’s finals now sealed.

Elsewhere, Kevin Wimmer was an unused substitute for Austria as they edged closer to qualification with a 1-0 win over Moldova.

Marcel Koller’s side currently lead Group G, and will guarantee a place in France with one point from their remaining three games.

Austria’s only appearance in the European Championship Finals to date came eight years ago, when they qualified for the tournament automatically as hosts.
