Emmanuel Adebayor has failed to show for Togo’s training camp ahead of their African Cup of Nations qualifier with Djibouti.
The striker was included in Tom Saintfet’s squad for Friday’s crucial match, but the 31-year-old remains emboiled in controversey after deciding to stay at home rather than meet-up with his international teammates ahead of the clash.
On Tuesday, Adebayor turned down the chance to sign for West Ham despite claiming he was ‘desperate to play’ football, after months of being frozen out at White Hart Lane.
His absence comes just three months after turning up late to international duty ahead of a match with Liberia, in which Adebayor ended up coming off the bench to score a last-minute winner.
It is thought that the Spurs striker will not be involved this time around, however, with the former Manchester City and Arsenal man citing the stress surronding his club situation as the reason as to why he is not able to represent his country.
The news will come as a surprise to very few, for Adebayor’s international career has been full of controversey for years, starting in 2008 when he was dropped over a row regarding bonus payments.
In 2010, he then announced his retirement from international football following a fatal attack on Togo’s team bus, but returned to action the following year.
Since then, his appearances for The Sparrow Hawks have been sporadic, his side suffered after failing to qualify for the 2012 & 2015 African Cup of Nations, aswell as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Adebayor has been capped 63 times for Togo, scoring 29 times.
