Pato would prefer Sao Paulo stay

Spurs-target Alexandre Patro does not want to leave Sao Paulo, according to the London Evening Standard.

The Brazilian striker has enjoyed an upturn in form since joining the club from domestic rivals Corinthians and has been attracting the interest of South American compatriot Mauricio Pochettino.

Pato, who has scored 21 goals in 42 appearances this season, wants to remain at the club beyond his scheduled stay, however, which is due to end in December.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if it was my last game for Sao Paolo. I will talk to my agent,” said Pato, who would need to complete a move to White Hart Lane by Tuesday’s 6pm deadline.

“I want to stay but it does not depend on me. It would not be good to finish like this. I’ll sit down and talk to see what’s going on.”

Spurs remain on the look out for further attacking reinforcements despite completing deals for Clinton Njie and Heung-Min Son in recent weeks, and the addition of Pato would add some much needed support to Harry Kane.

The England international failed to score once more in Saturday evening’s draw with Everton and is now without a goal in over 400 minutes of Premier League action.

Former Milan man Pato, on the other hand, is enjoying a rich vein of form in his native country having departed Italy two and a half years ago, with this year’s goal return the best of the 25-year-old’s career so far.
