West Brom have rejected a £22m bid from Tottenham for Saido Berahino.
An opening bid of £18m was turned down less than a week ago, and chairman Jeremy Pearce has reiterated that the player is not for sale.
In a short statement, he said, “Our position remains unchanged. The sale of the player is not on our agenda.”
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino remains undeterred in his efforts to sign the striker, however, and is likely to return with one final approach.
Berahino had a written transfer request rejected on Monday afternoon and was left out of his side’s squad for the defeat of Chelsea the previous day by Tony Pulis.
The former Stoke boss claimed that although he wants to keep the England U21 international, his head was not in the right frame of mind because of interest from as many as fifteen clubs.
Pochettino is desperate for attacking reinforcements after seeing his side fail to win any of his opening three games.
Roberto Soldado has already departed White Hart Lane to return to Spain with Villarreal, whilst Emmanuel Adebayor looks set to leave too.
