Victor Wanyama has told Southampton that he wants to leave the club.
The Kenya international is a Spurs transfer target, and according to the Daily Mail, he has let the St Mary’s club know that he sees his future elsewhere.
Saints boss Ronald Koeman was hoping to discuss a new contract with the midfielder, who has just two years left to run on his current deal, but now it seem as if the Dutchman is about to lose his prized asset.
Spurs will launch a £16m bid next week, and Mauricio Pochettino will now be confident of landing his man despite Koeman’s insistance that the midfielder would not be sold.
The former Feyenoord coach said on Friday, “There is no contact and no bid for any player and we don’t want to sell any players.”
However, he went on to seemingly suggest that a move could materialize, saying, “There are 10 or 11 days to go, so we will see what happens.”
Any move for Wanyama will kick-start a busy week ahead for Pochettino, who is looking to complete as many as three deals before the September 1 deadline.
The Argentinian wants to add two more strikers to his squad, and looks set to complete a move for Saido Berahino after he was left out of West Brom’s squad this weekend.
