Pritchard signs new contract

Youngster Alex Pritchard has signed a new four-year deal at Spurs.

The deal will keep the 22-year-old – who spent last season on loan at Brentford – at White Hart Lane until 2019.

His performances for The Championship side earnt him a place in the PFA’s Team of the Year, scoring 12 goals and making seven assists as they reached the play-offs.

The midfielder was also named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the UEFA European U21 Championships in the summer, but he missed much of the tournament due to injury.

Having only just recovered from that injury, Pritchard is currently building up his fitness in the hope of forcing his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans, and the new deal indicates he may just be doing that.

His first game back came for the U21s in their season opener against Everton, and he scored twice despite only playing the first half.

The following week, he was omitted from Ehiogu’s squad as speculation over a first-team call-up built, but he was not included in Pochettino’s 18 – most likely because of fitness concerns.

Pritchard’s only Premier League appearance came in a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in May 2014.
