Dominic Ball and Nathan Oduwa made their full Rangers debuts on Wednesday night as they overcame Ayr United.
Both played the full ninety minutes as Mark Warbuton’s side recorded a 2-0 victory to advance to the Quarter-Finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup.
It was a first outing in the blue of Rangers for centre-back Ball, whilst Oduwa was making his second Gers appearance following a controversial substitute cameo against Alloa on Sunday.
The midfielder faced criticism following an attempted rainbow flick in the closing stages of the 5-1 win, although his performance tonight was a lot more subdued.
He drifted in and out of the game, reports Richard Wilson, but was often compelling on the ball and created an air of uncertainty whenever in possession.
Booed by the home fans, his runs at defenders were always threatening and he contributed much to Rangers’ attacking play, moving the ball swiftly and sharply.
Elsewhere, Shaq Coulthirst came on for the final 17 minutes as Wigan Athletic earnt their first win of the season in a 3-0 triumph over Scunthorpe.
Earlier on Tuesday, Grant Hall and Connor Ogilive were unused substitutes for Rotherham United and Stevenage respectively – neither of who won.
