New signing Clinton Njie has said that he was never going to sign for Arsenal.
Representatives from The Gunners made contact with Lyon in a last-ditch attempt to hijack Spurs’ move, but the attacker has stated his heart was always set on White Hart Lane.
“I’ve never been afraid that my move to Tottenham would not materialize,” he told L’Equipe.
“My choice was made, I was determined to join Tottenham. I never had the leaders of Arsenal on the phone, they only contacted my agent.”
The 22-year-old signed a five-year deal on Saturday morning and his arrival gives Mauricio Pochettino some much needed attacking reinforcements after a disappointing draw to Stoke.
Njie has revealed that the Spurs boss played a major role in the decision to come to the club as he believes he can progress under the Argentinian.
“Here I will evolve under the orders of Mauricio Pochettino, a coach who plays youngsters and and progresses,” he said.
“Thursday, after my arrival in London and medical tests, he greeted me with the president, Daniel Levy, to tell me he hoped I would be availible as soon as possible.
“When I arrived in Europe, it was a goal and a dream of playing in the Premier League one day.”
Njie arrives in England after a season at Lyon in which he made 30 appearances and scored seven goals.
