Hugo Lloris will not be sold to Manchester United, says Mauricio Pochettino.
The French stopper has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer, but Spurs’ boss has said he is here to stay.
“There are a lot of rumours,” said the Argentinian. “Hugo is very happy to be here.
“His committment with the club is high. I think we need to be happy because if Manchester United want Lloris, it’s because he’s a great goalkeeper.
“Hugo has a contract here and he is happy here and wants success here.”
When quizzed about the player’s desire to play Champions League football, Pochettino retorted, “Yes, but keen to play in the Champions League with Tottenham, not with another club.
“He told me that ‘I want to play in the Champions League with Tottenham’.”
The former Southampton boss also dismissed the idea that Lloris’ exclusion from last weekend’s Premier League opener against Manchester United was anything to do with the speculation surrounding his future.
“No, no, no,” he said. “I didn’t take this decision because of all the rumors that happened. No, no, no. Hugo wasn’t ready.
“Maybe if the game was last week was Stoke City, he wouldn’t play, the same decision.”
Lloris played his first 90 minutes of the season on Monday night for Tottenham U21s and will lead the first-team on his return against Stoke City on Saturday.
Pochettino confirmed the former Lyon man as Younes Kaboul’s successor, but is not worried by the trend of captains leaving White Hart Lane in the summer following their appointment.
Kaboul left the club for Sunderland this summer, whilst previous captain Michael Dawson joined Hull 12 months previous.
“I think that Hugo deserves to be captain,” he said after saying the previous exits were a “co-incidence”.
“After we have Jan Vertonghen (and) Harry Kane. It’s a good reference for the group. It’s a very good group.”
