Match Preview: Spurs vs AC Milan

Tottenham will finish their pre-season against AC Milan on Wednesday evening after the duo tasted defeat in their Audi Cup Semi-Final ties.

They will meet in the third/fourth place play-off match at 5:15pm (UK) after goals from Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez ensured Real Madrid would see off Mauricio Pochettino’s team on Tuesday evening.

It will be one last chance for the Argentinian to record a win before Saturday’s Premier League curtain-raiser with the defeat to Rafa Benitez’s side following a loss to MLS All-Stars in what has been Tottenham’s only two public first-team friendlies of the summer so far.

However, Pochettino will be confident of a positive result against an AC Milan team that finished as low as tenth in Serie A last season, despite the likelihood of a number of changes being made to his XI.

After starting on the bench vs Real Madrid – Ben Davies, Kieran Tripper, Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen are likely to form the back four, whilst Nabil Bentaleb and Nacer Chadli will come into midfield.

Erik Lamela is also likely to feature once more after making his first appearance of the summer on Tuesday night, with Harry Kane a probable starter again too.

For Milan, a strong eleven is expected to be named after manager Sinsa Mihajlovic left a significant number of first-teamers on the bench for their Semi-Final defeat to Bayern Munich.

Riccardo Montolivo, Alessio Cerci and Alessandro Matri are three of eight Italy internationals who are likely to come into the team, whilst Phillipe Mexes will also be a fresh addition after sitting out Tuesday’s loss.

Former Liverpool player Suso is likely to start too, but there will be no Mamadou Niang or Cristian Zapata after the duo picked up injuries.
