Hernandez wanted as Ade replacement

Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Javier Hernandez as a replacement for Aston Villa-bound Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Manchester United striker faces an uncertain future at the club and The Mirror report that he could be turned to as an alternative to Saido Berahino whilst West Brom persist on wanting double what Spurs are prepared to offer.

27-year-old Hernandez has struggled to string a sequence of starts together at Old Trafford since arriving in 2010, and the Spurs hierachy believe that the offer of regular first-team football at White Hart Lane could tempt the player into a switch down South.

He spent last year on loan at Real Madrid, scoring 7 goals in 23 appearances, but the Mexico international remains way down Louis van Gaal’s pecking order despite the summer departures of Radamel Falcao and Robin Van Persie.

He was due to represent his country in this summer’s Gold Cup tournament but missed out through an injury picked up in a friendly as Mexico went on to win their tenth title.
