Academy Players to Watch out For

Alex Pritchard

The young midfielder looks set to be the next big thing at Spurs. He recently returned from the U21 European Championships where he played in the first two games before being cruelly struck by an ankle ligament injury that ruled him out of the last group match. He spent last season on loan at the Championship’s surprise package Brentford. Whilst at the club, he was vital in their play-off push and contributed 12 goals and 7 assists in 45 appearances in the league. It is widely expected that boss Mauricio Pochettino will thrust him into Premier League action this term so expect to see more of the 22-year-old.

Milos Veljkovic

The Swiss born Serbian defender has had his opportunities limited at White Hart Lane thus far but, with him only just approaching 20 years of age, he certainly has time on his side. Last season, he saw his time spent in the second tier of English football. Until January he was based at the Riverside with Middlesbrough but due to the performances of Grant Leadbitter and Adam Clayton, his contributions were limited to just a couple from the confines of the bench. When Middlesbrough chose not to extend his loan deal in Januaray, Milos was instantly shipped out to Charlton Athletic where he made a few appearances. The fact that Veljkovic has been capped at U17, U19, U20 and U21 level by Serbia, as well as the rumoured interest from Switzerland in handing him a senior cap, should excite Spurs fans who will no doubt see more of him in the coming year.

Kyle Walker-Peters

The 18-year-old full back featured on the post season tour to Malaysia and Australia after a promising season last term for both the Under 18’s and Under 21’s. Walker-Peters made 12 appearances for the Under 18’s side and a further 13 for the Under 21’s and has recently declared his ambition to further progress this coming season. Speaking to the Tottenham Hotspur official site earlier in the month the player said “To be in and around the senior squad again and to do well with the Under-21s. I think it’s very important to keep developing and performing well for the Under-21s. Another target is to hopefully play for England again.” The club’s seeming reluctance to send him out on loan clearly shows their desire for him to progress ‘the Spurs way’ as opposed to with a club in the lower divisions.
