- Luka Vuskovic scored for Hamburger vs Freiburg
- Tottenham fans heap praise on social media
- Barcelona and Liverpool monitoring defender
Luka Vuskovic has been in fine form for Hamburger SV this season, and Tottenham fans were surprised by yet another impressive display today.
The young Croatian has slowly established himself as one of the best young defenders in Europe and shown why Spurs made a swift move to sign him last year. He was signed for just £12 million from Hajduk Split and has a contract until 2030.
He was in action today for the Bundesliga side and played a key role in the 3-2 win over Freiburg. The teenager scored in the 64th minute to give his side the lead in the game, before Fabio Baldé made it 3-1 three minutes later.
Tottenham fans watch free kick go viral on social media
Tottenham fans were left stunned on social media after the clip of Vuskovic’s free kick went viral. Many were questioning whether the Croatian was good at everything on the pitch, while some were quick to recall Thomas Frank’s comment about him.
The defender has previously scored in the league, but not directly from a free kick. It was his sixth goal in the German top flight this season, and his seventh overall, having scored for Croatia against Colombia.
Tottenham fans were quick to heap praise on social media, as seen below:
One fan was pointing fingers at former manager Thomas Frank, and added:
Vuskovic is set to play for Croatia at the FIFA World Cup this summer, before joining Tottenham for pre-season in late July or early August.
Liverpool and Barcelona monitoring Luka Vuskovic
Vuskovic’s performances for Hamburg have not gone unnoticed and many clubs have been scouting him this season. Liverpool and Barcelona are the top sides who have been linked with a move this summer, with BILD reporting that the Anfield side see him as a key target.
The Croatian spoke about his future earlier this year, admitting that he was not in a position to compare the top leagues as he had yet to play in the Premier League. However, he didn’t dwell too much on his future.
“The Bundesliga is also a very difficult league. It’s hard for me to say about the Premier League now, but I tell you, I’m not thinking too much about it or stressing myself out.
“Let’s do this season properly, and then we’ll see in the summer what happens next.”
He also spoke to Tportal, saying that he was focused on Hamburg and the FIFA World Cup, while adding that Tottenham will decide his future as he still has years left on his deal.
“I don’t know what will happen, we’ll talk about that in the summer. Tottenham is also being talked about because I’m their player until 2030. So, after the World Cup, we’ll see what will happen and how to proceed. As for me, I wouldn’t mind staying at Hamburg, in fact.”
“Mario (his brother, who is currently sidelined due to a doping suspension) should start playing in the autumn, so I’d get the chance to play with him, which is my biggest wish at the moment. You know how football is, you never know what will happen.”
The contract until 2030 has put Tottenham in a strong position ahead of the summer window. Spurs are under no pressure to sell, and even potential relegation isn’t expected to change their position.
