Tottenham’s top five assist makers in Premier League history

Tottenham have had wonderful finishers in the Premier League era; however, without the creative spark from some mesmerising players, they wouldn’t have been as effective in front of goal.

Last year, this sentiment was clear in the UEFA Europa League final, as the Lilywhites beat Manchester United in Bilbao.

Brennan Johnson had a scruffy finish, which was the difference between the two on the night, but the composure shown by Pape Matar Sarr to whip in a dangerous ball at the front post was a significant moment.

To highlight the importance of these players, Read Tottenham takes a look at the club’s top five assist makers in the Premier League.

5th – Aaron Lennon: 2005-15 – 45 assists

The English winger made the switch from Leeds United in the mid-00s to move to White Hart Lane. His electric pace was devastating for any defender in the Premier League, which helped him rack up assists with great forwards such as Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe.

His best assist campaign came in 2009-10, which helped the Lilywhites finish in fourth. They marked their return to the Champions League for the first time since the 1961/62 season, where they reached the semi-finals.

4th – Harry Kane: 2009-23 – 47 assists

The English forward is well known for his goal-scoring capabilities, having smashed a handful of records at this stage of his career, yet he possesses a creative bone, which was vital in Spurs being so effective in attack.

When he broke onto the scene, he was deadly in front of goal, having his mind set on it, but as he grew more mature, his game evolved, and he dropped deeper to occupy space and launch deadly attacks.

In his final three years in the league, he registered 27 assists.

3rd – Christian Eriksen: 2013-2020 – 59 assists

During his time at Ajax, the Dane was a creative force on his own, with his final two years in Eredivisie seeing him record 35 assists in 66 games.

While the Premier League is a different beast, he continued to be a natural in the final third.

After two tough seasons, where he added little to his tally, he finally found his feet as Mauricio Pochettino’s side pushed for the title, where he registered 30 assists across two seasons.

His relationship with the frontline took Tottenham so close to Premier League success.

2nd – Darren Anderton: 1992-2004 – 66 assists

The midfielder moved to North London from Portsmouth in the year the Premier League came about, and he was instantly a hero for all Spurs supporters, as his elite technical ability and sharp eye for a pass made him lethal for any team to deal with.

His partnership with Teddy Sheringham was electric, though they couldn’t finish any higher than seventh during his time at the club.

His best season came in 1994-95, where he got 14 assists, which helped his record of top league assister at Spurs stand for two decades.

1st – Heung-min Son: 2015-25 – 71 assists

The man to break the Premier League record was none other than the South Korean maestro, whose breathtaking ability made even opposition fans stand up and appreciate his class.

Son built a solid relationship with Kane and Lucas Moura, as they became one of the best attacking trios in the league.

He broke the record in his final season at the club, where he grabbed 10 assists in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign. His last ever league assist came against Ipswich in a 4-1, which led to Brennan Johnson’s second of the afternoon.
