Tottenham may get relegated, but Arsenal’s Premier League title blow is giving fans reasons to smile

Arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have experienced contrasting fortunes in the Premier League over the past two seasons.

The Gunners have competed for the Premier League title for four straight seasons now. They finished second in the last three seasons, but sit atop the table with five games remaining. They have failed to win any major trophy since 2020, though.

Meanwhile, Tottenham ended their 17-year trophy drought last season by winning the UEFA Europa League. However, they finished 17th in the league and are in the relegation zone this season.

Arsenal’s recent form will make Tottenham fans happy

There hasn’t been much for Tottenham fans to be happy about since their Europa League triumph last season. It has been a terrible season in every way possible, which could see them get relegated from the Premier League for the first time in their history.

However, a shocking stat has come out, which would certainly put a smile on Spurs fans’ faces. Tottenham are currently in better form than Arsenal in the last six games across competitions. This is despite one team battling relegation, while the other is competing for trophies.

Arsenal came into March alive in four competitions. However, they lost in the EFL Cup final against Manchester City and in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Southampton. They then beat Sporting CP 1-0 away in the Champions League quarter-finals first leg.

The Gunners then lost 2-1 against Bournemouth in the Premier League, before playing out a goalless draw against Sporting in the second leg. They then lost 2-1 against Manchester City on Sunday in the league. They have just one win, one draw, and four defeats in their last six games.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have one win, two draws, and three defeats. They lost 5-2 against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals first leg. They drew 1-1 against Liverpool, before beating Atletico 3-2 in the second leg. Spurs then lost 3-0 against Nottingham Forest and 1-0 against Sunderland, before drawing 2-2 against Brighton.

Chelsea are doing even worse than Arsenal and Tottenham

While Arsenal and Tottenham are obviously struggling, their London rivals, Chelsea, are faring even worse than them. The Blues have just one win in their last seven games across competitions. That one win came against Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Fair to say, it has been a terrible few weeks for arguably the three top London clubs. However, despite their forms, Spurs fans would much rather be in Arsenal’s or Chelsea’s shoes than in a relegation battle. The Blues also have the opportunity to win the FA Cup, as they will face Leeds in the semi-finals.

However, if Tottenham can somehow survive relegation, while also seeing the Gunners fail to win any trophy, it would certainly be a huge relief.

With five games remaining, the worst could also happen, i.e., Arsenal winning and Spurs getting relegated. Regardless, the next weeks are set to be monumental for the London clubs.
