Tottenham’s managerial situation was last stable under Ange Postecoglou, who was in charge of the club for two whole seasons.
However, despite winning the UEFA Europa League during the 2024-25 campaign, he was sacked as the North London outfit finished 17th in the Premier League.
And everyone knows how Thomas Frank’s reign at the club went as the Dane was sacked midway through the current season due to a series of underwhelming results across all competitions.
Igor Tudor has also come and gone, with Roberto De Zerbi now tasked with saving the club from relegation. And now, a rather stunning bit of information has emerged from England about Postecoglou’s return to Tottenham.
Tottenham considered Postecoglou
After his Tottenham departure, the Australian got the job at Nottingham Forest. However, he lasted just 38 days at the club as Evangelos Marinakis pulled the plug on him and turned to Sean Dyche, who was also sacked in favour of Vitor Pereira.
Tudor’s reign – which lasted 44 days – pushed the club closer to the drop as they decided to part ways with him last week.
Fulham manager Marco Silva was a target for Tottenham, while Andoni Iraola also had keen admirers at N17.
And now, Ben Jacobs has confirmed that the Lilywhites briefly considered a sensational return for Postecoglou before moving ahead with a deal for De Zerbi.
“There was zero chance of Marco Silva being allowed to leave Fulham,” said Jacobs on the Last Word on Spurs podcast.
“Andoni Iraola was also discussed, as was Ange Postecoglou for the final seven games, which was a possibility.”
“Tottenham then decided it was right to not approach either of them and go all in for Roberto De Zerbi, first.”
Terrible idea even by Tottenham’s standards
Where do we even start this one? Postecoglou will undoubtedly be remembered by everyone associated with Tottenham for breaking the club’s trophy drought.
At the time of his sacking, a lot of fans wanted him to stay as the players were well on truly on his side. However, the decision to part ways with him had some merit as Tottenham finished 16th last season, which simply isn’t good enough, no matter how you look at it.

And now, under truly dire circumstances with relegation looming large, how would it have made sense to bring back a man who himself just about avoided the drop last season?
Looking across the board, Tottenham have done really well to get De Zerbi on board because the managerial market doesn’t seem to have too many available options at the moment.
