Tottenham Hotspur’s season reached a new low as they fell to a damaging 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at home.
Igor Tudor oversaw one of the worst performances in the club’s recent history as a calamitous capitulation saw them go from a goal up to two goals down in a matter of minutes.
A brace from Ismaila Sarr either side of a Jorgen Strand Larsen goal gave Palace all three points after Dominic Solanke broke the deadlock for the hosts.
Micky van de Ven’s sending off rubbed salt into the wounds of the Tottenham faithful as the prospect of relegation looms large over N17.
Here are the player ratings from a game where Tottenham lacked just about everything, right from quality to showing heart amidst a relegation dog fight.
Tottenham starting XI ratings
Guglielmo Vicario: 4/10 – There were whispers that Antonin Kinsky would replace Vicario between the sticks, but the Italian kept his place and was called into action in the first minute to deny Adam Wharton.
However, he was in the thick of the action as Palace scored three goals to take control of the game before the interval.
Vicario was booed by the Tottenham fans at half-time, which is a sign that things are going from bad to worse.
Pedro Porro: 4/10 – Showed tenacity without too much quality and should have tried to clear the ball before it reached Sarr for the third goal. Another high-profile flop on the night.
Kevin Danso: 3/10 – The Swiss central defender simply never looked comfortable and failed to contribute anything positive, much like the rest of his teammates. Another grim outing at the back for the 27-year-old.
Micky van de Ven: 1/10 – To put things mildly, he let everyone down with a needless challenge that changed the course of the game, and possibly plunged the club deeper into the relegation battle.
Will now miss the game against Liverpool just as Cristian Romero returns to the squad after serving his suspension.
Souza: 5/10 – Got an early booking for a challenge on Daniel Munoz that led to his substitution.
Showed some bright sparks on his first start for the club, but was ultimately withdrawn prematurely as collateral damage for Van de Ven’s moment of madness.
Joao Palhinha: 4/10 – One of those performances that really went unnoticed and not for the right reasons. Got his place back at the heart of the backline and did nothing to affect the game.
Archie Gray: 7/10 – One of the only Tottenham players who showed some fight as he delivered his second assist under Tudor to set up Solanke.
Papp Mater Sarr: 3/10 – Gave the ball away for the third goal and failed to deal with Wharton’s threat, who dominated the midfield battle.
Randal Kolo Muani: 4/10 – Showed some fight early on but received a yellow card before being substituted prematurely after they went down to 10 men.
Dominic Solanke: 5/10 – Scored a brilliant goal from close range and got an effort on target in the second half. One of Tottenham’s better players on the night, although that isn’t really saying much.
Mathys Tel: 6/10 – Got a rare start after his impressive cameo last week and was heavily involved in the game in the first half. Showed a lot of fight, which immediately makes him better than everyone on the pitch, barring Gray.
Tottenham substitutes ratings
Yves Bissouma: 4/10 – Came on after Van de Ven’s red card and didn’t really make an impact despite spending a lot of time on the pitch.
Conor Gallagher: 4/10 – Same as Bissouma.
Xavi Simons: 4/10 – Came on with 15 minutes left on the clock and hit a close-range free kick into the wall. He was at it in stoppage time once again with another underwhelming set-piece, which just summed up Tottenham’s night.
Richarlison: 5/10 – Was expected to start the game but had to settle for a place on the bench. His desire was clear but he didn’t really get on the ball enough to make a big enough contribution.
All in all, it was yet another frustrating night of Premier League football in Tottenham and you really have to hand it to the home fans who didn’t storm out at halftime.
