Destiny Udogie is one of several Tottenham Hotspur players who are currently injured as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old last featured in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United earlier this month and isn’t expected to return to action until mid-March.
Igor Tudor will address the media before Tottenham’s clash against Arsenal and will likely provide an update on the Italian, along with the rest of the injured players in his squad, so we have to wait to hear from the Croatian.
In the meantime, though, something seems to be brewing in the Italian media, as Calciomercato have appeared to suggest that Udogie could be on his way back to his home country in the summer.
Juventus view Udogie as the ‘chosen one’
Udogie made his name in Italy with Hellas Verona and Udinese before joining Tottenham for a fee believed to be in the region of £15m.
Since making his debut during the first game of the 2023-24 campaign, he has become a key player for the club, cementing his place as their first-choice left-back.
However, he has been prone to injuries during his spell in North London, missing as many as 40 games across all competitions for Tottenham over the last two-and-a-half seasons.
That hasn’t stopped Juventus from keeping a close eye on the player, though. According to Calciomercato, the Serie A giants view Udogie as the ‘chosen one’ to replace Andrea Cambiasso if the Italian secures a transfer this summer.
Cambiasso has blown hot and cold for the Bianconeri, with the report confirming that he has a price tag of around £33m in the summer for interested clubs in Italy and beyond.
Juventus believe Udogie has the physical attributes and the technical ability to thrive in their system. Additionally, he is no stranger to Italian football, having played the bulk of his professional career in Serie A and also for the national team.
Tottenham faced with intriguing Udogie decision
Udogie has already shown that he is a fantastic player when fully fit, but injury woes are clearly a cause for concern.
His future could also depend on who the new manager is, with Mauricio Pochettino linked with an emotional return to Tottenham in the summer.
Udogie can play as a traditional left-back in a flat back-four and also as a wing-back in a 3-4-3/3-5-2, which is where he is likely to slot in under Igor Tudor after returning from injury.
In an ideal world, Tottenham will want to keep a player of Udogie’s quality. However, there are a lot of moving parts at Hotspur Way at the moment, so it wouldn’t be wise to rule this one out at this point in time.
