Tottenham Hotspur are said to be tracking the progress of Rennes midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud with a view to a transfer – but would he be a good signing for the north London club?
The Mirror cite Estadio Deportivo in reporting that interest in Bourigeaud is high with Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all keen on the player.
The 25-year-old enjoyed just his second season with the French club last term, proving to be a threat in front of goal with nine goals and 10 assists in all competitions.
That kind of impact is something that Spurs have lacked from central midfield in recent years, with the likes of Eric Dier, Harry Winks and formerly Moussa Dembele nowhere near as proficient in an attacking sense.
He has also been known to operate on the right of midfield, meaning he could provide much-needed competition for Lucas Moura with Erik Lamela struggling of late.
In addition, Bourigeaud is comfortable taking set pieces and crossing the ball, an asset that could be needed should Christian Eriksen eventually complete a move elsewhere before the start of the 2019/20 season.
With Rennes reportedly looking for £18m in order to let him depart this summer, Spurs should do everything they can do to get him through the door.
It seems like the perfect addition for manager Mauricio Pochettino who is looking to build a young hungry squad that he can develop for years to come.
It would also be a big statement of intent given the number of other clubs rumoured to be interested in him, with a number of tops Italian club also linked.
