Tottenham’s Young Lions – Slovakia VS England

England played Slovakia in the first of their World Cup qualifying group games on Sunday night.

With the disappointing performances at the European Cup in France still looming over them, their new manager Sam Allardyce was hoping that his players would show the fans that they’ve put it all behind them and were ready to move forwards.

Tottenham were represented by the same five players that former England manager Roy Hodgson had selected. Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Deli Alli, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose were all in Big Sam’s squad. Everyone but Deli Alli started the match.

England started the game with real intent, getting straight down the right wing and putting pressure onto Slovakia’s back four. Slovakia’s defence held their lines well and started to frustrate England, and the match soon started to feel like a carbon copy of the group game from the Euro’s just 3 months ago.

Ex Liverpool defender and Slovakia’s captain Martin Skrtel was rightly sent off in the 57th minute for a nasty stamp on Harry Kane. Although it it took England another 30 minutes to finally find the back of the net, it proved to be the turning point in the match which England ended up winning 1-0 thanks to a late Adam Lallana goal in the 95th minute.
