Can Colchester United shock Tottenham in the FA Cup?

Tottenham travel to Colchester United this Saturday lunch time for an FA Cup 4th round tie that has the ingredients to produce a shock result.

Tottenham secured their place in the 4th round following a 2-0 win against Leicester City in a replay. After the team’s drew 2-2 at White Hart Lane, thanks to Harry Kane scoring a penalty kick late on. The lilywhites go into the game having won their last 3 matches and sit 4th in the Premier League.

Colchester United currently bottom of League 1, beat Charlton Athletic 2-1 in their 3rd round tie played at the beginning of January. Colchester are rooted to the bottom of the league 1 table with only 5 wins all season and have conceded the most goals in the league (65 goals in 28 matches played).

Looking at the two teams and their respective form there is only one winner. But this is the FA Cup. The tie is being shown live on BT Sport and will inevitably attract a big crowd. Two factors that will motivate Colchester to potentially defy the odds and cause an FA Cup shock.

Who would have expected Bradford a League One team last season to beat Chelsea in the 4th round last year. Not only did they beat Premier League opposition but they were 2-0 down at Stamford Bridge and fought back to win 4-2.

Tottenham go into the match in good form. But form doesn’t win games. Tottenham will need to be professional like they have been so far this season, taking each match at a time if they are to book a place in the 5th round.
