Harry Kane has reflected on an incredible year, which has seen the life of the 22-year-old striker change considerably.
Speaking to ESPN, Kane reflected on a year which has seen him become Tottenham’s main striker, play regularly for England and go through a goal drought which lead fans and pundits alike to question whether he was a one season wonder.
Reflecting on his new found popularity, Kane said:
“Life has changed a lot”
“Outside of football, too, being an England international you get a lot more publicity and more fans coming up to you on the street or in a restaurant.”
“So, yes, it’s been a crazy year, but it’s all good and hopefully there is more to come.”
Kane also talked about his difficult start to the season, where he failed to score until he netted against Manchester City at the end of September. Since then, Kane has scored six goals in four league games, including a hat-trick against Bournemouth and the opening goal at the Emirates in the North London derby.
Speaking about his goal drought, he said:
“I’m always confident in my ability,”
“I think even when I wasn’t scoring goals, I didn’t feel I was playing bad. I still felt I was contributing to the team. We were playing well as a team, we were picking up results.”
“It was just I think a matter of time. I’ve said before, you need a bit of luck now and then. I probably didn’t have that at the start of the season.”
Kane will now be hoping to extend his goal scoring run with two London derbies coming up, against West Ham and Chelsea. If he can continuing his goal scoring form, he would deserve to be considered as England’s main striker at the European Championships ahead of Wayne Rooney.
