When Tottenham Hotspur won the Carling Cup under Juande Ramos in 2008, it marked the first time Tottenham had won a trophy since 1999. It also marked the high point of Juande Ramos’ time at Tottenham, which were to end 2 months into the following season.
So, we at Read Tottenham decided to look at where the players and indeed manager had ended up once their time at Spurs came to an end as Tottenham take on Arsenal in the third round of the competition this evening.
Manager: Juande Ramos- Once his time at Spurs came to an end in October 2008 after a winless start to the 2008-2009 season, the Spaniard was appointed as Real Madrid manager just two months and led them to second place in La Liga before departing in the summer of 2009. After that, he went on to manage CSKA Moscow for two months and his most recent job saw him leave Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk at the end of the 2013-2014 season.
The starting XI:
Goalkeeper- Paul Robinson- Robinson departed the club in the summer of 2008 to join Blackburn after the signing of Heurehlo Gomes. He stayed with Blackburn until he was released at the end of the 2014-2015 season. He is currently without a club and working as a pundit for Sky Sports.
Right back- Alan Hutton- Hutton continued to play intermittently for Spurs before departing the club on deadline day in September 2011 for Aston Villa for £4 million. He is currently still at Aston Villa as their back up right back.
Centre back- Jonathan Woodgate- Man of the match and scorer of the winning goal in the final, but Woodgate’s career was to go downhill from that day at Wembley mainly due to injuries.
Centre back- Ledley King- The 2008 Carling Cup was the only trophy of Ledley’s career before he retired in 2012 due to his chronic knee injuries. He continued to play on an intermittent basis for Spurs under Juande Ramos and then Harry Redknapp before he retired.
Left back- Pascal Chimbonda- After originally joining the club in the summer of 2006 from Wigan, he departed in the summer of 2008 to Sunderland but returned to Spurs in the winter transfer window of 2009. However, he left Spurs for the second and last time in the summer of 2009 to Blackburn. Since leaving Blackburn he has played for QPR and Doncaster Rovers, as well as playing for Market Drayton. His most recent club was AC Arles-Avignon.7

Right wing- Aaron Lennon- The last to depart from Tottenham of the 2008 side after being pushed out of the club by current manager Mauricio Pochettino. He left on loan to Everton for the second half of the 2014-2015 season before making that move permanent on the 1st September 2015.
Centre Midfield- Jermaine Jenas- He finally left Spurs in the winter of 2013, after two injury-hit spells on loan at Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. After departing Tottenham, he joined QPR and has since most recently been seen on Match Of The Day as a pundit on a frequent basis.
Centre Midfield- Didier Zokora- He left Tottenham in the summer of 2009 after being declared surplus to requirements by Harry Redknapp. Since leaving White Hart Lane, he has played for a number of clubs including Sevilla and Trabzonspor. He currently plays for Pune City in the Indian Super League.

After joining Sunderland, he moved onto St Etienne in 2011 where his cancelled was contract after only one month due to unforeseen circumstances. He currently plays for Lyon after joining them in August 2012.
Centre Forward- Robbie Keane- Along with Berbatov, he would depart in the summer of 2008, but unlike the Bulgarian he would return and did so in January 2009 after a frustrating 6 months on Merseyside playing for Liverpool. He would leave the club permanently in 2011, to join LA Galaxy. He spent a brief period on loan at Aston Villa in 2012 but remains at LA Galaxy to this current day.
Centre Forward- Dimitar Berbatov- One of the first to depart Spurs alongside Robbie Keane, he made the move to join Manchester United on deadline day in Summer 2008 for a fee of £30 million.
