Opposition Corner: Crystal Palace

Opposition Corner: Crystal Palace

Ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane this weekend, Read Tottenham asked James Spiking of Read Crystal Palace to give us his thoughts on all things Crystal Palace and how he thinks the game this weekend will unfold.

What do you think of your teams start to the season?

Crystal Palace have had a fantastic start to the season, and were unforutnate to not pick up points in the games vs Arsenal and Manchester City. Apart from them defeats, Pardew has got everything spot on, including the transfers, and it’s really being refelcted with the results – especially the three points at Stamford Bridge.

If you had to pick one star performer so far who would it be?

Yannick Bolasie has been exceptional from the get go, and it was sad to see him hit with family problems. However, when he came off the bench against Chelsea, he proved yet again why he’s so important to this side.

What is your personal opinion on your summer signings and how they are fitting in?

The summer signings have been excellent. Cabaye has come in and proven why he is so highly-rated, Sako has proven himself. McCarthy has done well to come straight into the team following the injury to Julian Speroni. Conor Wickham is obviously liked a lot by Pardew, so all in all it was a superb summer.

Who do you think Spurs should most fear on Sunday?

Spurs will need to look out for the pace that Palace possess out wide. We’ve been there before with Zaha and Bolasie tearing the full-backs to shreds. Adding to that, you can’t forget how clinical Jason Puncheon can be with his left foot. It’s almost a change of game plan up top now that Murray has departed as it seems Pardew wants pace up there instead of physicality.

What are your thoughts on Spurs start to the season?

Disappointing. The win at Sunderland was far from emphatic and I feel like the whole team is under-achieving. Bringing in Son from Leverkusen was good business however, and it was proven on Thursday.

Who do you think will cause Palace the most problems?

I think Son will cause the problems for Spurs this weekend. I watched him during his time at Leverkusen and he simply has it in the locker to provide the team with some width, but can also finish well.

Where do you think each side will finish come the end of the season?

If Spurs keep it up, they’ll struggle to grab a European place. However, for Palace, them spots don’t seem too far away.

And finally, what is your predicition for the score this weekend?

2-0 Palace.
