Leicester City 1-1 Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur remain without a win this season after being held by Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors were left frustrated in the first half as they dominated nearly two-thirds of the possession but didn’t make good use of it, with their best chance coming from Mousa Dembele outside the box which was comfortably saved.

Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes were unfortunate not to receive a penalty just before half time as Jan Vertonghen could be seen pulling back on Riyad Mahrez’s shirt before going over.

Spurs finally broke through the Leicester defence in the 81st minute as Nacer Chadli’s short cross was headed in by 19-year-old Dele Alli who had only been on the pitch 15 minutes.

However the lead lasted around a minute as Mahrez, who had earlier hit the post, charged through to send a powerful left footed shot past Hugo Lloris.

The hosts could have gone on to win the game, but a powerful point-blank header from Wes Morgan was kept out by Hugo Lloris.

It was another disappointing game for Harry Kane who once again looked very much on his own up front in attack, reinforcing the opinion that a second striker is needed.

His best chance came in the 63rd minute as he brilliantly weaved his way through several Leicester defenders before slipping and sending a weak shot that was easily saved by Schmeichel.

Manager Pochettino described the game as 50/50, going on to explain, “I am disappointed with the draw. Last game against Stoke we lost a 2-0 lead and we did it again. We deserved more again but it is a shame.

“I am angry and disappointed, not frustrated. The mistake we made today is difficult to explain.”

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri felt the draw was the appropriate end for the game.

“Tottenham kept possession of the ball but we created the same chances and 1-1 is the right result.

“I am happy, My players have a fantastic spirit. It was an outstanding goal and Riyad Mahrez is a very good player.”
