Tottenham Hotspur will be in Pot One for next week’s Europa League Group Stage draw.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are amongst the 12 best ranked teams in the competition according to UEFA’s coefficient rankings and so will avoid a host of top sides when the teams are drawn on August 28.
Schalke, Napoli and Villarreal join Mauricio Pochettino’s team as a top seed, whilst the remaining eight teams will be confirmed following the conclusion of the final round of qualifying games.
Borussia Dortmund, Ajax and Rubin Kazan are guaranteed place in Pot One if they come through their ties – to be played on August 20 & 27 – but other winners must wait to see who drops down from the Champions League qualifiers before learning their fate.
Spurs were a Pot One team in last year’s competition but suffered a tough draw being matched with Besiktas – who finished above Spurs then knocked Liverpool out in the Round of 32.
The previous year, Anzhi Makhachakala, Tromso and Sheriff Tiraspol were the opposition as Andre Villas-Boas’ team won every group game.
