Tottenham Hotspur are close to an agreement for the transfer of Lyon striker Clinton Njie, says the French club.
A fee that could rise to £12m has been agreed, and president Jean-Micel Aulus has said that the deal could be close.
“We are close to an agreement but there’s no urgency for us,” he told French Radio RMC.
“We want to complete our own signings first, but I thank Daniel Levy to have now made an offer that we regard as consistent.”
Njie, has made 48 appearances in all competitions for the French club since making his debut in 2012, with 33 of them coming last season when he became a mainstay in the team.
His return of just eight goals in that time will be a worry to Spurs’ fans, but his main asset it his pace – rather than his goalscoring prowess – and he could be a particularly dangerous weapon off the bench against fatiguing defences.
The 21-year-old is also a full international for his native Cameroon, of whom he boasts a slightly better goalscoring record for with eight goals in 11 appearances.
Last year, he was also nominated for the CAF Most Promising Talent of the Year award, but lost out to Algeria’s Yaccine Brahimi.
