Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached a club-record agreement to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.
According to The Guardian, Spurs have agreed a package worth up to £100 million for the Italy midfielder, with the initial fee set at £92.5 million and further add-ons linked to Champions League qualification.
The deal would instantly become the defining move of Roberto De Zerbi’s summer rebuild. It also marks a major escalation from the earlier pursuit phase, when Sky Sports reported Tonali had been identified as a top target to raise Tottenham’s technical level in midfield.
Tottenham are now just two steps away from completing the signing of Sandro Tonali after agreeing a financial package for the Newcastle midfielder.

De Zerbi Gets His Midfield Reference Point
Tonali’s attraction is obvious. De Zerbi wants a side capable of controlling the centre of the pitch, playing through pressure and sustaining attacks with cleaner tempo than Spurs managed for long spells last season.
The 26-year-old would arrive as more than another expensive addition. With Mateus Fernandes already agreed and Spurs having previously chased this exact profile, as covered by ReadTottenham, Tonali now looks like the central piece rather than a speculative swing.
Newcastle’s acceptance is also significant because Archie Gray is not understood to be part of the transaction. That preserves one of Tottenham’s key young assets while still landing the senior midfield authority De Zerbi has pushed for.
If final formalities are completed, Spurs will have turned a long-running chase into a statement signing. The price is extreme, but the intent is clear: Tottenham are building De Zerbi’s midfield around a player trusted to dictate the next phase of the project.
