At a glance:
- Mohammed Kudus linked with Liverpool
- Reds could make move if Spurs are relegated
- Kudus still out with long-term injury
Mohammed Kudus has been a big miss for Tottenham in recent months, but speculation surrounding his long-term future have dominated the back pages.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are keeping tabs on the Ghanaian winger as they look for Mohamed Salah’s successor.
Kudus was a key player under Thomas Frank despite Tottenham’s poor run of form under the Dane.
He didn’t feature under Igor Tudor and is yet to make an appearance under Roberto De Zerbi.
And if Tottenham get relegated, he may never play under the Italian.
Liverpool want to sign Mohammed Kudus
Liverpool announced that Salah would leave the club after nine decorated seasons at Anfield.
Replacing the Egyptian maestro is no small feat as he is widely regarded as one of the greatest wingers in Premier League history.
The Athletic claim that Kudus could emerge as a target for the Reds, especially if Tottenham get relegated.
The North London club would be forced to part with a lot of their prized assets if they drop down to the Championship.
Similarly, Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville, both of whom could suffer relegation with West Ham United.
Aside from the Tottenham man, the Reds are also monitoring Yankuba Minteh, Rayan, and Anthony Gordon, so their list doesn’t stop with Kudus.
A no-brainer for Tottenham
Since joining the club from West Ham last summer, Kudus delivered more often than not before suffering a quad tendon injury in January.
He was set to return to action after the international break in March, but that wasn’t the case as he suffered an injury setback.
Kudus’ ability to take players on, hold width and also drift to central areas to influence proceedings creatively are all invaluable traits for De Zerbi.
Additionally, Tottenham paid around £55m to secure his signature from the Hammers, so the thought of offloading him after a solitary season in North London shouldn’t even be entertained.
They have two games to save their Premier League status and if they manage to remain in the competition, a firm hands-off warning must be issued to Liverpool and other potential suitors.
Kudus is unlikely to agitate for a transfer if they remain in the Premier League, so this isn’t something Tottenham need to worry about at this point in time.
