“Off his head” – A lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans are baffled by Paul Merson’s claims about Spurs’ chances of making the top four.
The ex-Arsenal player has claimed that Tottenham will not make the Champions League next season – if they sell Christian Eriksen.
He believes that without Eriksen Spurs will not make the top four because they were struggling to break down Aston Villa – until the Dane was introduced from the bench.
The 27-year-old did change the game against Villa, and there is no denying that – but Mauricio Pochettino was deprived of Heung Min Son, Dele Alli, and Giovani Lo Celso.
So, to claim that Spurs losing Eriksen will prevent them finishing in the top four seems ludicrous.
Eriksen is a valuable player, but he will not decide if Spurs make it to the Champions League next season or not.
