Dele Alli wins PFA young player of the year award

Dele Alli scooped the PFA Young Player of the Year award at the PFA awards dinner on Sunday night.

The event, which was held at the Grosvenor Hotel in London, saw Alli beat the likes of Jack Butland, Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley, Phillipe Coutinho and Spurs team-mate Harry Kane to win the prestigous award.

Alli also becomes the fourth Spurs player to win the award in the past five seasons, with Kyle Walker having won it in 2012, Gareth Bale in 2013 and Harry Kane in 2015.

However, due to Spurs playing West Brom at White Hart Lane on Monday night, Pochettino banned all members of the Tottenham squad from the event, meaning that it was left to Spurs legend Ossie Ardiles to collect the award on Alli’s behalf.

But Alli did appear in a video message, saying:

Thank you Ossie, the Tottenham legend for receiving this award for me.

Sorry I can’t be there tonight but we have a big game tomorrow. Thank you for to everyone who voted for me.

I feel honoured to win such a prestigious award and thank you to my friends, family and all the staff at Tottenham.

Alli’s amazing year could yet get better, with Spurs still chasing down Leicester City to win the Premier League.

However, if Spurs aren’t able to bring the Premier League trophy to White Hart Lane, it has still been a fantastic season for the young Englishman, who has scored 10 goals and accumulated nine assists for Spurs so far this season as well as scoring on his first England start.

How impressed have you been by Dele Alli this season?
