Match Report: Tottenham 3-0 Manchester United

Spurs kept their faint title hopes alive, as they beat Manchester United 3-0 at White Hart Lane with goals from Alli, Alderweireld and Lamela.

After the game finally got underway at 4:30, due to Manchester United arriving at White Hart Lane late, it was United who dominated the opening stages at White Hart Lane, as Spurs struggled to play out from the back and lost possession regularly.

However, it was Spurs who had the first clear-cut opportunity to score, when Lamela headed wide when it looked easier to score. As the first half progressed, it was Spurs who began to dominate proceedings, but were ultimately unable to make the breakthrough and it meant that the score was 0-0 at the interval.

The Lilywhites finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, when Dele Alli slotted past De Gea. It proved to be the start of a brilliant six minutes for Spurs, with Alderweireld heading home and then Lamela firing past De Gea in the 76th minute to ensure Pochettino’s side would leave White Hart Lane with three points.

Spurs nearly had a fourth when Lamela’s effort hit the post, whilst Alli was unlucky to be booked for diving in the penalty area by Mike Dean even though replays showed clear contact from Darmian on Alli.

The result means that Spurs are seven points behind Leicester after the latter’s victory over Sunderland earlier today, whilst it also extends the gap to third-placed Arsenal to six points.
