Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League round of 16. The first leg is to be played at Westfalenstadion in Germany on 10th March, with the return leg at White Hart lane on the 17th.
Dortmund are the bookies favourites to win the competition, but have commented on the fact that drawing Spurs is a “tougher draw than Manchester United or Liverpool”.
The tie is definitely an attractive one, and will be Tottenham’s biggest European test for some time. Both teams are in fine form with convincing wins in the previous round against decent opposition, with Spurs dominating AFC Fiorentina and Dortmund beating FC Porto.
Spurs will need to be at the top of their game if they are to progress past Dortmund as they have long list of quality players who have racked up an impressive 96 goals so far this season. Their top scorer is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with 31 goals in all competitions.
Tottenham will play away in Germany after a tough period of 3 close together Premier League games against Swansea, West Ham and Arsenal. Three games in a week could affect their fitness heading into the Europa League match but 4 days rest after the derby should give Spurs enough time to prepare.
