Pochettino Satisfied with Chelsea Result

After a largely dull affair in North London, with both teams cancelling one another out, Mauricio Pochettino expressed satisfaction with his side’s performance after a difficult week.

Much was made of the teams’ schedule and the Argentine reflected on this in his post-match comments, stating, “It’s always difficult to play against Chelsea and after travelling back from Azerbaijan it was an even tougher game but I think we can be pleased with the performance and the maturity we showed as a team.”

Goal-scoring opportunities were sparse and many would conclude a draw to be a fair result and Pochettino’s views seemed to run in line with this. “In the end we can feel happy and maybe a bit disappointed because we always try to win.”

“We deserved more but at the end we have to be happy with the effort, we created more chances than Chelsea – I think they had one shot on target – and we can be proud of the performance.”

It is perhaps a sign of how far Spurs have come in recent months, that the Argentine seemed slightly downbeat in his post match comments. Despite this the draw means Tottenham have now surpassed their Premier League record, going 13 matches unbeaten in the competition.

Pochettino reflected upon this, “Its important, unbeaten in 13, but the most important thing now is to win against West Brom. We need to follow in the same way, to keep working and always think towards the next game.”

All-in-all, fans can be happy with today’s result. While the game did not live up to recent performances, it must be remembered that Chelsea’s current league position is very much false and a point against them in any situation is a good one.

Pochettino, identified this, complimenting today’s opponents, “Chelsea played like a real team. The effort, how they ran, the commitment, they showed respect and you only have to look at how Oscar, Hazard, Willian, Matic and Fabregas all ran, it was unbelievable.”

Spurs play West Brom next Saturday and will hope to extend their run to 14 matches unbeaten to strengthen their pursuit of a top four place.
