Pochettino on inevitable fixture congestion

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino has denied that he is critical of the Premier League and Sky Sports.

Pochettino’s Spurs side face the possibility that they could play three important matches in the period of seven days, which could result in higher levels of fatigue for the Tottenham players.

Spurs’ match at White Hart Lane against manager-less Aston Villa has been moved to Monday evening by Sky. The reason for this is that Sky believed that this fixture would be the one in which Tim Sherwood, ex-manager and former player, would return to Tottenham.

Sherwood was sacked by Aston Villa last week due to the club’s poor performances in the league, they remain rock bottom of the table.

Because of this action, Sherwood isn’t going to be at White Hart Lane for this fixture.

Remi Garde is the favourite to take over the seat in which Sherwood has left behind, with the former Lyon manager expected to become the new manager at Villa Park.

Spurs will play Belgian side Anderlecht this Thursday in an important Europa League fixture which could decide if the North London side will remain in the tournament.

Then in the same week, Pochettino’s side face arch-rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium for the first North London derby in the league this season.

Spurs lost 2-1 to the Gunners earlier this season at White Hart Lane in the Capital One Cup at the beginning of the season.

Coach Pochettino isn’t going to moan about his side’s inevitable fixture congestion.

The Argentine said ‘I don’t like to complain about this, you know, it’s tough to play Monday, Thursday and Sunday. But in the beginning of the season, in the meetings with all the team, we accept the rules in football.’
