The Express are reporting that Tottenham central defender Jan Vertonghen has hinted that he could potentially be rested for Tottenham’s derby match versus Arsenal on Wednesday night.
The two north London sides come into the match with differing form. Spurs have won both of their last two matches, whilst Arsenal have lost their last two games. Vertonghen’s central defensive pairing with Toby Alderweireld has made for a sturdy Spurs defence this season.
The Belgian duo have helped Tottenham to have the second best defensive record in the Premier League having only conceded four goals in six Premier League outings.

Vertonghen has said that he is looking forward to the game, however, does say that missing it could be beneficial to him in the long term.
The Belgian said: “I don’t know who’s going to play (against Arsenal) but whoever does, everyone knows how important those games are for us and for the fans. We will play a strong team,I guess, and hopefully get the same result.
“I think I lost only once or twice (to Arsenal) and I’ve won a couple so my record (against them is) not too bad.
I want to play every game because I like to play football (but) sometimes it’s better for me to rest. I think it’s good that the medical staff and technical staff make that decision for you.
“You can still be fresh in March or April that way.”
Tottenham could play Eric Dier or Kevin Wimmer at the back next to Alderweireld if Vertonghenwere to be rested.
