Tottenham started their Barclays U18 Premier League season off in style as they thrashed Brighton on Saturday morning.
Ryan Loft got the first goal of the game on 10 minutes before Zenon Styliandes doubled the league just before the midway point of the half.
Soon after it was three thanks to Charlie Owens’ effort, but the hosts went into half-time just two goals to the good after Jordan Maguire-Drew earnt a goal back for The Seagulls.
John McDermott’s side were back on the scoresheet on the hour mark thanks to Kazaiah Sterling’s strike, before Samuel Shashoua completed the rout at the death.
U18s coach Kieran McKenna said he was pleased with the effort of his side and particularly how quick they got out of the blocks.
“It’s something the boys have done really well in all the pre-season
games, where we’ve scored within the first five minutes,” he said.
“I think it comes from how the players prepare for games, not only in
the training sessions in the days leading up to matches but also on the
matchdays themselves where we prepare well and warm-up correctly so
we’re ready to hit the ground running. It’s something the boys are doing
well at the moment and hopefully that’ll continue.”
Spurs’ travel to West Ham next weekend in their second match of the season.
