U21s end France tournament with loss

Tottenham Hotspur have finished fourth in the National U21 Tournament in Ploufragan following a 2-1 defeat to Lorient on Sunday.

Ugo Ehiogu’s side recovered from a dissapointing opening day with a victory in Saturday’s match against Guingamp, but Ismail Azzoui’s effort could not prevent another loss on Sunday against the French side.

A fourth-minute goal from Jean-Phillipe Krusso ensured that Spurs were on the backfoot from the start before Erwin Koffi’s strike put the game well and truly to bed.

Azzoui – who was named the competition’s Player of the Tournament – grabbed a consolation goal in the final minute, but it was too little too late for Ehiogu’s men.

The weekend’s performance is a drastic improvement from last year when a young Spurs side finished eighth after three defeats and just one victory.

They will open up their U21 Barclays Premier League season with a match against Everton on Monday August 8 at Hotspur Way.
