# ‘Big quality’ – Roberto De Zerbi blown away by Tottenham summer signing

**Tottenham Hotspur secured a statement 2-0 win against Chelsea after a fantastic display at Stamford Bridge.**

Roberto De Zerbi’s side dominated the game and took the lead through an own goal from Mike Penders, after which Mathys Tel secured the result with a sensational solo effort.

The game also marked Mateus Fernandes’ return to the team and he produced a fighting display in the centre of the park despite picking up an early booking.

And De Zerbi singled out the Portuguese international for special praise as he continues to get to grips with life at his new club.

## Roberto De Zerbi lauds Tottenham summer signing Mateus Fernandes

“I love watching my players fighting on the pitch,” said De Zerbi via [Football London](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/every-word-roberto-de-zerbi-34813712).

“But Mateus Fernandes played 90 minutes with a big, big quality. I want to see Mateus Fernandes with personality. I want to see Fernandes enjoy with the ball.

“Even if he can make a mistake, it doesn’t matter. It’s not a problem, a mistake. But I want to see this personality from my team.

“We are a big club. In the last period, the results have not been so good. But we are a top club in the Premier League.

“We must show personality. We must show mentality. We must show our qualities to the players. Otherwise, we have to change.”

Fernandes has struggled in recent weeks and only made three Premier League starts for the club before this game.

Hopefully his performance at Stamford Bridge will serve as a springboard for the rest of the season, and it looks like he is finally coming into his own.
