# ‘Active talks’ – Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham have ‘verbally agreed’ terms with £72m attacker

**Tottenham remain in the market for another attacker despite edging closer to agreeing deals for Savinho and Omar Marmoush.**

Roberto De Zerbi’s spending spree this summer is showing no signs of slowing down, with the Lilywhites looking to add one more player to cap off an historic summer transfer window.

[Tottenham want to sign Cody Gakpo, who is valued at around £72m by Liverpool](https://readtottenham.com/2026/08/24/tottenham-dealt-massive-cody-gakpo-blow-its-completely-self-inflicted/).

And despite agreeing personal terms with the player, Fabrizio Romano suggests Manchester City’s recent interest has thrown a spanner in the works of the transfer.

## Manchester City want Tottenham target Cody Gakpo

The Italian wrote on X: “Liverpool will only sell Cody Gakpo if they can get two wingers in next 8 days; priority remains Bradley Barcola.

“Tottenham verbally agreed terms with Gakpo since July, Man City now also in active talks with his agents.

“Player to decide but also based on LFC winger plans.”

Tottenham, in rather hilarious fashion, are to be blamed for City’s interest in Gakpo as Enzo Maresca’s side are now desperate for an attacker due to the impending departures of Savinho and Omar Marmoush to North London.

The Lilywhites have already agreed personal terms with Gakpo, while it is entirely possible that Liverpool sanction his departure as they look likely to sign two attackers.

However, if Manchester City also make an offer and propose a contract to the Dutchman, it remains to be seen if his head is turned.
