# Tottenham fans will absolutely love Fabrizio Romano’s latest transfer update

**All our reporting today has been on Cristian Romero and his potential Tottenham Hotspur departure.**

We can’t claim it won’t continue as Atletico Madrid’s interest has thrown a spanner into the works, but for now, we’ll focus on another familiar name: Cody Gakpo.

So far, the equation has been very simple. [Liverpool have been reluctant to sell Gakpo](https://readtottenham.com/2026/08/02/tottenham-dealt-massive-blow-gakpo-liverpool/), although sources have confirmed that he has a price tag of around £72m.

But now, Fabrizio Romano suggests Liverpool’s stance may have changed due to their recent pursuits of Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.

## Tottenham target Cody Gakpo could be sold

We’ve covered [Tottenham’s interest in recruiting multiple attacking players](https://readtottenham.com/2026/08/02/tottenham-dealt-massive-blow-gakpo-liverpool/) such as Savinho, Eli Junior Kroupi and Ferran Torres, among others.

Gakpo, however, seems like the one they really want to sign, with Romano confirming that direct talks have been held with the Dutchman’s agents.

The Italian football journalist suggests Liverpool could agree to sell him if they get a sizable bid, which would allow them to complete deals for PSG duo Mbaye and Barcola.

We had some doubts earlier, but Gakpo now seems like someone Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi genuinely want.

If the boss wants him and Liverpool agree to sell, there’s no point in going against his wishes as he continues to stamp his authority at the club.
