# Ryan Sessegnon won’t threaten Danny Rose’s place just yet

Tottenham Hotspur finally sealed the signing of Ryan Sessegnon on [transfer deadline day](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49283542) – and the [versatile 19-year-old](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-sessegnon/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392775) could be set for a [great career](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2019/august/sessegnon-i-can-t-wait-to-get-out-there-and-play/) at Spurs.

In over[100 career games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-sessegnon/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392775) so far, he has [played 48](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-sessegnon/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392775) as a left-back [42](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-sessegnon/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392775) as a left midfielder and [20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-sessegnon/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392775) as a left-winger – so it is not clear where Sessegnon will end up.

Many people expect him to become a[fantastic left-back](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1161499/Tottenham-transfer-news-Mauricio-Pochettino-Ryan-Sessegnon-Darren-Bent), but Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that he will not be involved in the [first-team squad](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/fixtures-results/spurs-press-conference-live-pochettino-16726826) initially.

This is excellent news for Danny Rose – who believed that his [Tottenham career](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-transfer-news-danny-rose-contract-rumours-gossip-done-deals-a8951316.html) was over this summer.

The 29-year-old thought that he would be moved on as he was past the [right age](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-transfer-news-danny-rose-contract-rumours-gossip-done-deals-a8951316.html) to play for Spurs.

He was then left out of Spurs’ squad that [toured Asia](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/07/16/danny-rose-left-tottenhams-pre-season-tour-asia-edges-closer/) but no one from the [Premier League](https://www.90min.com/posts/6413389-danny-rose-the-contenders-to-sign-him-where-he-might-end-up) decided to sign him, meaning that, for now, he will remain in [North London](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9673984/tottenham-danny-rose-transfer-latest/).

Rose started against[Aston Villa](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49215981), and a lot of Spurs fans rate him as one of their [best defenders](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/danny-rose-tottenham-hotspur-transfer-16599934) so they [are delighted](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/danny-rose-tottenham-hotspur-transfer-16599934) Rose has stayed and looks set to play an[important role](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9673984/tottenham-danny-rose-transfer-latest/) for Pochettino.

Sessegnon will have the perfect player to learn off in Rose and though he may well [eventually replace](https://www.hamhigh.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-hotspur/ryan-sessegnon-tottenham-hotspur-transfer-completed-1-6206537)the 29-year-old in the Tottenham side, it is hard to see how this season Sessegnon [gets in ahead](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/fixtures-results/spurs-press-conference-live-pochettino-16726826) of Rose at left-back.

Rose may well feel he does not have [long left](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-transfer-news-danny-rose-contract-rumours-gossip-done-deals-a8951316.html) of his Tottenham career, but he can still play an important role both on and off the pitch for Spurs.

On the pitch, he is still an [excellent defender](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-defenders-danny-rose-and-kyle-walker-are-worldclass-fullbacks-says-spurs-legend-ledley-a3396506.html), and off the pitch he can [mentor Sessegnon](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/ryan-sessegnon-spurs-transfer-latest-16554165) and help him become a [fantastic Premier League](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/fixtures-results/spurs-press-conference-live-pochettino-16726826) footballer.
