# Tottenham’s squad is a lot better than it was last season

Tottenham Hotspur have sealed the signings of [Giovani Lo Celso](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2019/august/lo-celso-loan-agreed/) and [Ryan Sessegnon](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2019/august/sessegnon-completes-move/) on the final day of the [transfer window](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48965845).

Signing these two has turned a [poor window](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/transfers/verein/148) for Tottenham into a superb one – and their squad is now in a [stronger position](https://www.transfermarkt.com/tottenham-hotspur/startseite/verein/148) than it was[last season](https://www.worldfootball.net/teams/tottenham-hotspur/2019/2/).

The signing of Lo Celso means that Mauricio Pochettino is overwhelmed with [good options](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/startseite/verein/148) in midfield – and him coupled alongside Tanguy Ndombele could prove to be a formidable partnership.

The addition of Sessegnon also means that Tottenham have a player who is comfortable in all positions on the [left-hand side](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-sessegnon/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392775) – and also has [serious pace](https://footballbh.net/2019/07/20/ryan-sessegnon-2018-19-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics/).

Spurs have also managed to keep hold of Toby Alderweireld – and his [£25m release clause](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham/toby-alderweireld-release-clause-tottenham-stars-25million-exitfee-expires-a4198296.html) has expired, meaning if anyone [from Europe](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham/toby-alderweireld-release-clause-tottenham-stars-25million-exitfee-expires-a4198296.html) wants to sign him, they will have to pay serious money.

The only potential problem positions for Tottenham will be right-back where they decided not to replace [Kieran Trippier](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49010376) – and will instead rely on [Juan Foyth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/startseite/verein/148), [Serge Aurier](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/startseite/verein/148), and [Kyle Walker-Peters](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/startseite/verein/148).

Upfront they also do not have a [backup](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/startseite/verein/148) for Harry Kane – who [was injured](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-kane/verletzungen/spieler/132098) a lot last season.

So, if the same thing happens Spurs do not have a reserve striker to fill in – though Heung Min Son can play that lone forward role [very well](https://totalfootballanalysis.com/player-analysis/son-heung-min-tottenham-tactical-analysis-statistics), as he proved last season with [nine goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/heung-min-son/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/91845/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=14&trainer_id=) from that position.

Apart from these slight areas of concern though Tottenham look in great shape – and the additions of [Sessegnon](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2019/august/sessegnon-completes-move/), [Ndombele](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48841318) and [Lo Celso](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2019/august/lo-celso-loan-agreed/) are all good signings who could increase competitiveness in the squad.

It is a great dilemma for Mauricio Pochettino to have.
