# Match Report: West Brom 1-1 Tottenham

A great goal from Dele Alli wasn’t enough to give Spurs all three points at the Hawthorns as Spurs failed to close the gap on the top four.

The first half saw Spurs start off the better team and deservedly take the lead when Alderwiereld played a wonderful ball through to Dele Alli, who volleyed the ball through the legs of Myhill. However, West Brom fought back and James Mclean equalized after he headed in from Darren Fletcher’s cross in the 39th minute.

The second-half started off as the first half had, with Spurs enjoying most of the possesion and the first chance of the half fell to Harry Kane. However, the England forward couldn’t convert as the covering West Brom defender managed to clear his tame effort.

West Brom then took the upper hand and were correctly denied a penalty for handball when Jonny Evans effort hit Mousa Dembele with the ball not going anywhere near his hands. An effort from Jonas Olsson forced a superb save from Hugo Lloris, who managed to divert the over the bar from the defender’s effort from four yards out.

West Brom then continued to be the better team and the introductions of Son and Clinton failed to inspire Spurs, who stay in 5th but are now three points behind 4th place.
