# Match Report: Anderlecht 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham suffered a loss in the Europa League for the first time this season, after Anderlecht triumphed in Belgium.

Spurs named a strong line-up as Mauricio Pochettino looked to ensure that his side were in pole position to qualify from the group after a win against Qarabag and a draw against Monaco.

Hugo Lloris started in goal, with the Belgian first choice central defensive partnership of Alderweireld and Vertonghen continuing at the back. The big news of the night was that Harry Kane was left on the bench, with Clinton replacing him in the starting line-up. Dele Alli also sat the game out as Pochettino looks to ensure he doesn’t play too many games in a short period of time.

It started well for Tottenham, as Eriksen put us ahead in the opening stages and dominating the early part of the game. However, the lead would not last long as Gillet levelled for Anderlecht with a superb volley from a corner to draw the home side level.

With the game approaching the mid-way point of the second-half, Pochettino sent on Dele Alli and Harry Kane in the search for a winner. However, it was Anderlecht who would take the lead, with their top scorer this season, Stefano Okaka slotting in as the game approached the final 10 minutes.

Spurs were unable to find an equalizer in the time that remained and will now focus their attention on Bournemouth ahead of the game on Sunday.
