# Walker and Townsend called into England squad

Andros Townsend and Kyle Walker have been called into the England squad ahead of the games against Estonia at Wembley on Friday followed by the game against Lithuania on Monday in Vilnius.

England, who have already qualified for Euro 2016, have seen their injury problems mount ahead of two games they could really do without. John Stones has returned to Everton to continue his treatment on an injury he suffered two weeks ago, whilst captain Wayne Rooney, Jonjo Shelvey and Danny Ings all sat out training on Tuesday.

Walker and Townsend join Spurs team-mates Harry Kane and Dele Alli in the squad, who received his first call-up to the senior team having impressed since finally making his move to Spurs in the summer.

It has been a while since Walker was called up to Roy Hodgson’s squad, with his last appearance coming against Italy in a friendly in March. He is likely to be competing with Nathanial Clyne and Phil Jones for the right-back role.

Townsend however, has featured for England more recently with his last appearance coming in the away victory over Slovenia in June. For Townsend, it will hopefully be a springboard for a season that has not really got going after injury halted his start to the season. He will be competing with Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a place on either wing with Wayne Rooney if fit expected to play in a no.10 role.
