# Match Report: AS Monaco 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham were left frustrated as a late goal for the home side gave Monaco an undeserved draw in front of a sparsely populated Stade Louis II stadium.

Spurs, who named a strong line-up for the second game running in the Europa League, had originally gone ahead in the 35th minute through Eric Lamela, who is having his best season to date in a Spurs shirt since joining from Roma in 2013.

However, it was in truth a very poor Monaco side and a shadow of the team that knocked out Arsenal out of the Champions League last season after their Russian owner reigned in his spending which led to a number of player departures.

Despite controlling the rest of the game, Spurs failed to add to the scoreline which meant that Monaco always had a chance to get back into the game.

With less than 10 minutes to go before the final whistle, they did score an equalizer through El-Shaaraway after he headed in, beating Kieran Trippier to the ball in the process.

Despite the disappointing result, it was a day to remember for ex MK Dons man Dele Alli, who after receiving his first ever call up to the England senior team for the international games next week put in another eye catching performance as he dictated the tempo in midfield and helped to launch a number of Spurs attacks.

For Tottenham, they now move onto the Liberty Stadium where they play Swansea on Sunday, whereas the next European game for Spurs is against Anderlecht in three weeks time.
