# Match Report: Tottenham Hotspur vs Qarabag FK

Son Heung-Min had a home debut to remember, as Tottenham overcame Qarabag FK 3-1 in their Europa League group J clash.

Mauricio Pochettino will be relieved to have come away with a victory after going behind when debutant Kieran Trippier gave away a penalty five minutes into his debut, which was the converted by Almeida for Qarabag.

As the first half wore on, Spurs began to put pressure on the Qarabag defence and were rewarded in the 28th minute when Son converted Townsend’s corner when the ball bounced in front of the Qarabag goalkeeper.

By the time the Tottenham fans had finished celebrating their first goal, they were celebrating their second as Son put Tottenham into the lead. After receiving the ball from Son, Dele Alli managed to get the ball back to Son with some magnificent footwork allowing the South Korean forward to slot home his second on the 30-minute mark.

The scores would stay the same until half-time and throughout most of the second half as Tottenham looked to be happy with the scoreline, although Eric Lamela missed two guilt edge chances to put Spurs further in front. Midway through the second half, Harry Kane and Clinton N’Jie were introduced for Townsend and Son respectively.

With less than 10 minutes to go, Kane won the ball off the Qarabag defence and slipped in Eric Lamela who finished well to round off the victory for Spurs and made sure Spurs were not on the end of an upset in their first European match of the season.

However, a concern for Pochettino and Tottenham fans alike would be that Eric Dier seemed to pick up an injury with not long on the left and was replaced with not long left on the clock by youngster Harry Winks.

Overall, Tottenham fans will hope they can produce another performance like this when they play Crystal Palace on Sunday and they will want to see another man of the match performance from Dele Alli after the ex-MK Dons prospect was the standout player against Qarabag with his passing and neat footwork.
